Why is Jesus the Only Way to Get into Heaven?

John 14:6 states: "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way,and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"

Why is this the case?  Why is Jesus the only way?  The Bible makes it very clear (as seen above) that it is only through Jesus Christ that people like you and me are able to receive forgiveness of sins and in turn receive eternal life.  Here are some simple biblical reasons:
  1. There is only One God (1 Timothy 2:5), therefore all other gods cannot get one to heaven because they don't exist (1 Corinthians 8:4)--they are made up variations of a works based salvation that are vain attempts to appease a guilty conscience. All attempts of religion to get one to heaven doesn't deal with the real issue of a heart polluted by sin--at the most religion can make a person look good on the outside (like a coffin) but inside be full of dead man's bones (Matthew 23:27).
  2. You and I have sinned (Romans 3:10; Romans 3:23) against a Holy God (Isaiah 6:3) who is so pure that no darkness can dwell with Him (1 John 1:5), therefore no matter how hard we try by our good works to bridge the gap between God and us, it isn't good enough--it falls short (Romans 3:23; Isaiah 64:6).
  3. Because we have sinned against this Holy God, who is eternal (Deuteronomy 33:27), our judgment is also eternal (Mark 9:43-48; Revelation 19:3).
  4. Therefore, only God Himself can provide for us the way to get back to Him.  This God has done through  the sending of His Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16).  Jesus Christ had to therefore become fully human (the incarnation--John 1:14) and had to go to the cross to take our punishment for our sin (2 Corinthians 5:21). Only a Human can represent humanity; only the Eternal God can deal with sin committed eternally against Him--Only Jesus Christ therefore fits both requirements (being fully human and fully God) for obtaining forgiveness of our sin against God.
  5. Jesus Christ rose from the dead (Luke 24:6; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and because He is alive, so all who place their faith in the work of Jesus Christ is also saved or forgiven of their sins against God (1 Corinthians 15:22) and stand before the Lord as if that one has never sinned against Him (Romans 3:21-28).
This was a short list of the many verses that help you and I understand why only Jesus Christ is the way of salvation from sin against a Holy God.

If you today do not know that your sins are forgiven, come now, don't delay--call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior (Acts 16:31) and you too will know the joy of sins forgiven and the certainty of a eternal home in heaven (John 14:1-3)
