Is Homosexual Marriage OK With God?

This is a very sticky debate in American culture, polarized by two sides--those who are for homosexuality and gay marriage and those who are for traditional marriage. Of course, what is totally lacking in this public debate by the majority of Americans (because they have embraced the faith of evolution) is what does God think about this issue.  To me, since all of us will have to give an account to God on Judgment Day (Heb. 9:27), it is only God's view about the issue that ultimately matters.  This is why it is important to look deeply into what God has spoken in His Word.  If we know His Word, we know His will.  Therefore this post seeks to bring to light the passages of Scripture that address homosexuality and marriage.  My intent is not to purposely cause anger from one side or the other concerning this issue.  My intent is to focus on what the Bible says plainly and make the right applications to the homosexual marriage issue.

In addressing this issue from the Scripture, it seems best to first look at how God originally created everything in the Creation account in Genesis 1 and in Genesis 2.  Genesis 1 is a broad chapter that gives the big picture on God creating everything in the universe, while Genesis 2 is a more detailed account on how God created Adam and Eve (See Does Genesis One and Two Contradict Each Other? if you have any questions).  Remember, the key to understanding all the Creation passages is the verse in Genesis 1:31 where God stated that everything that He made was very good.  This means everything we find in Genesis 1 and 2  was perfectly made or established by God without any trace of sin or defect.  Therefore, everything we see today that deviates from the "very good" of this account is not what God originally intended for humanity.  What do we find when we examine the Creation passages in Genesis?  We find that God established marriage as between one man and one woman:
Gen 2:18-25 ESV
(18)  Then the LORD God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him."
(19)  Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.
(20)  The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him.
(21)  So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.
(22)  And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.
(23)  Then the man said, "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man."
(24)  Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
(25)  And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
This passage clearly indicates that God intended for man and woman to marry and become one flesh.  This teaching by the Lord is also confirmed by the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God when He was responding to the religious teachers of His day concerning divorce (found in two Gospel accounts):
Mat 19:4-6 ESV
(4)  He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female,
(5)  and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
(6)  So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."
 Mar 10:6-9 ESV
(6)  But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.'
(7)  'Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,
(8)  and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh.
(9)  What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."
It is very safe to conclude from God's Word that the Lord intended marriage to be between only one man and one woman.  This is what God intended and wants for humanity.

Therefore, should marriage be redefined?  The answer according to Scripture is no.  Why?  Because to redefine marriage is to go against what God established in the Garden of Eden.  What about if one doesn't believe the God of the Bible exists?  Does that make it OK then?  The answer is no because that one is suppressing the truth inside of them that the Lord God who made them exists (Romans 1:18-32).

As I close, I remind you that marriage is a special union that God has established between man and woman and is a picture of what humanity's relationship is to be with the Lord God who made them--one.  My question to you today is how is your relationship God?  Are you estranged?  Are you not on speaking terms? God is waiting for you to come to Him and He wants to have a personal relationship with you.  God has already made the way back to Him--through His Son Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world (John 3:16; Romans 5:6-11).
