Warning To Voters

James 5:1-6 says:
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous person. He does not resist you.
We learn from this passage a dire warning for those who get rich through unjust means. James warns them that instead of the unjust rich getting right with God, the unjust rich often spend their efforts gaining more wealth unjustly, resulting in them becoming greater objects of God's wrath.

We learn that these wicked rich people are self indulgent and seek to hurt others for their own personal gain.

Application of this passage to today:

With the presidential election this year in America, I urge you if you are child of God to not get swept away by the gold spent to win your vote. Also, don't let the smooth sounding speeches trick you--understand that all they may be doing to get your vote is so they can better help themselves.

Rather, look at the candidates and compare their character to the Bible.  Look to see if they have a history of loving God and their neighbor (The 10 Commandments, Exodus 20:1-17; Mark 12:28-31).  If they don't, then biblical wisdom says turn away!  If they do, then prayerfully ask God to give you the wisdom to pick the best one who loves God first and his neighbor second.

Remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ concerning faithfulness, treasure, and genuineness:

“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much." Luke 16:10

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. Matthew 7:15-20

May the Lord in His mercy give us a president who will encourage righteousness and loving others rather than loving self and sin!
